STANDARD SINGLE LIST NO. 7 ADOPTED JANUARY 15, 1923 "The Single List" To be used in Determining Prices on Doors shown in our General Door Catalog. NICOLAI DOOR CO. of California Nineteenth and Harrison Sts. Telephone Mission S144 '• 5934 SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA FACTORY PORTLAND, OREGON SUPERIOR QUALITY Smith-Kinney Co., Printers, Tacoma TO THE TRADE This list supersedes all former lists used by us. It provides for the various types of doors to which fir especially lends itself on account of the peculiar beauty of the grain pat- tern and its other recognized qual- ities. Eliminating confusion in quoting on our large variety, one discount tells the story for every type of door in our catalogue. Our letter of quotation gives the base discount. Page four gives the base or single list, providing for size, thickness and grade. Extras for specialties not provid- ed for elsewhere are shown on pages seven and eight Our complete table of differen- tials and net extras, covering all types of doors in our catalog, is shown on inside back cover of this booklet. STANDARD SINGLE LIST No. 7 Used by the Fir Door Manufacturers OF THE Pacific Coast ADOPTED JANUARY 15, 1923 This List is known as M The Fir Door MT rs. Standard Single List." Copyright 1923 by SMITH-KINNEY CO. TACOMA WASH. EXPLANATORY The Single List gives a fixed List Price to all doors of a given size, regardless of the kind, style or grade, the varia- tion In price of the particular kinds, styles and grades being determined by a group of fixed discount differentials applied to the Single List. Heretofore it has been customary to establish the variations in value of the various styles of doors by a series of fixec lists, so that quoting a single discount would give the proper relative net price on every style of door. The single list system accomplishes this same result by use of a single fixed list with definite discount differentials to cover the various grade* and styles. With the fixed list and these fixed discount differ- entials, the quoting of a single base discount fixes the net price on every style of door on which these fixed discount differentials have been established. The discount quoted on 5 Cross Raised Panel, Bead and Cove No. 1 Doors is known as the Base Discount, and ap- plies to all doors taking the Base Discount; when varied as noted in the Differential Table it determines the discount on all other regular stock styles; in the case of front doors it is the discount which determines the net base price to which the front door net extras are to be added. Front doors, on account of the limited range of sizes and the proportionate increase in labor over material cost, are not priced by the differential method, but take the Base Discount plus a certain net extra for each type of front. This list supercedes the lists formerly used by the West Coast manufacturers. It provides a simple, definite, uniform method covering all future sales. CONDITIONS TERMS Our terms are 2% for cash thirty days from date of invoice, or 60 days Net. The 2% allowed for cash is a premium for prompt payment — not a discount from prices given. (d) All orders are accepted and executed subject to, and without liability on shipper's part for delays and their consequences arising from causes beyond shipper's control during manufacture and delivery. GRADES OF FIR DOORS (Explanatory) Fir Doors, by reason of the entirely different character of the wood from which they are manufactured, do not follow the grades established for doors manufactured from other woods. The average No. 1 Fir Door will compare favorably in grade with the usual A A A of the Official List when extra finished, besides showing beauties of grain not found in soft or other semi-hardwood doors. The No. 1 Door, which is usually finished In the natural, or with transparent stains, is graded so that any defects ad- mitted will not affect detrimentally the appearance of the door after It has received the finish. The No. 2 Door as graded is primarily a high grade paint or enamel finish door and the selects are frequently used for transparent stains. The No. 3 Door, which Is supplied in limited quantities, Is equally substantial, but the defects are of such a character that this door must ordinarily be used for paint finish. It is impossible to maintain absolutely arbitrary rules in fixing grades, and slight variations within reason and gov- erned by practical common sense may be expected. A shipment of any grade must represent a fair average of that grade, and must not consist of an unfair proportion of the better or poorer doors of such grade. GRADES (Definite) No. 1 Door Material in No. 1 Fir Doors must be clear with the excep- tion that each stile may contain a carefully repaired pitch seam, not over 3*4 inches long, not over 35 inches from the bottom of the door. Bottom rail may contain the same defects as the stiles. Not more than two defects on each side of door. Bright sap not considered a defect. Workmanship must be good. No. 2 Door Stiles in No. 2 Doors may each contain two sound knots not over % inch in diameter, or two carefully repaired pitch seams not over 6 inches long, or slightly stained material. Bottom rails and wide lock rails may contain the same defects as the stiles. Rails and muntins not over one defect in eacli. Panels may each contain slightly discolored material and one small pitch seam, not over 3% inches long. Not over ten defects on each side of a door. Workmanship must be good. No. 3 Door Stiles In No. 3 Doors may each contain discolored material, sound knots not over 1*4 inches in diameter, and pitch seams not over 8 inches long. Bottom rails and wide lock rails may each contain the same defects as stiles. Other rails and muntins proportionate defects. Panels may each contain pitch seams, tight knots not over % inch in diameter and discolored material. This grade is suitable for paint only. Mixed woods admitted. Defects in workmanship allowed.
